2002
The year of 2002 started for Suzanne Vega as the latest months of 2001, with the resuming of the US tour in support of "Songs In Red And Gray".
Like previously, her live band was: Mike Visceglia (bass),
Gerry Leonard (guitar), and Doug Yowell (drums). The B-side
"Golden" was performed live for the first time in this period,
and Bob Hillman was again the opening act, though sometimes
also other artists opened for Suzanne Vega.
From late February to mid March, 2002, Suzanne toured in Europe for first time, since 1997, with a full band. Like it had happened before, Suzanne, still recovering from her arm fracture, didn't play guitar in all the songs. In the two first March shows Suzanne played only with bassist Richard Gates.
After Europe, Suzanne Vega did a few US shows. The song "It Hit Home", from the tribute album "Vigil", was then performed live for the first time. On the last 2 shows, Billy Masters was the guitarist, replacing Gerry Leonard who joined David Bowie's band.
Bob Hillman opened in several shows. Also Christine Lavine and Tom Robinson opened for Suzanne, in one occasion each.
Suzanne returned to Europe in the Summer 2002 for another tour, with the same setlist from before. "It Hit Home" was also played a couple of times. Suzanne's band was now: Mike Visceglia (bass), Billy Masters (guitar) and Doug Yowell (drums).
Bob Hillman was again the opening act, missing only the first (Norwegian Wood Festival) and the last three concerts (Portugal and Italy).
On the last two concerts (in Italy) Suzanne played accompanied solely by the bassist Mike Visceglia.
Suzanne played several shows in the US in the second half
of the year, resuming in late July the "Song In Red And Gray"
tour, including 3 shows opening for Jethro Tull in the end
of August.
From September onwards Suzanne played only on a couple of
ocasions. The opening act (when there was one) changed from
concert to concert, and Suzanne, most of the times Suzanne
was only accompanied by Mike Visceglia.
On the 19th of September concert Steve Hass replaced Doug Yowell on drums.
