2001
With a new album recorded but still with no release date announced, Suzanne Vega did some shows in the beginning of 2001, and another European Summer tour. Like it happened since 1999, Suzanne was only acomppanied by the bassist Mike Visceglia.
The shows were once more based on the acoustic setlist performed
over the previous years, with the addition of more new songs:
"(I Will Never Be Your) Maggie May", "Song In Red And Gray"
and "Solitaire" at first, and "It Makes Me Wonder" in the
Summer. Also "Calypso" returned after a long absence.
In the end of September of 2001 Suzanne Vega's first album
in five years "Songs In Red And Gray" was finally released.
Due, first to a bicycle accident that caused the fracture
of one arm, and, later, to the tragedy of September 11th,
Suzanne had to delay the promoting tour, that only started
in October.
This time Suzanne could not play the guitar, so, along with her and the bassist Mike Visceglia, toured the guitarist Gerry Leonard.
After the first California shows the band was increased with the drummer Doug Yowell.
The new songs "Priscilla" and "St. Clare" were added to the set, as well as old songs never played in the acoustic period: "Solitude Standing" and "Blood Makes Noise". Also "Tired Of Sleeping" and "Bad Wisdom" were performed some times.
For the "Songs In Red And Gray tour" the American singer Bob Hillman was responsible for the opening act.
